Hi Baldies!
We are Bald Bitches Press aka Madeleine Adele Galas and Julia Saige Bielenberg. Our friendship started in Santa Barbara when we shared a tight knit studio and art practice as a part of the Department of Art Honors Cohort of 2022. After graduating, we moved to Los Angeles together with 6 cats and some questionable jobs. Bald Bitches Press was born after a year of trials, tribulations, and unfortunate events that lead to two liberating head shaves. Bald Bitches Press is the culmination of our personal art practices, our joy, our rage, and our love for our cats. We make fine art prints, stickers, zines, patches, shirts, and tote bags creating unique works of art anyone can wear or have in their home. Our practice consists of painting and printmaking inspired by our queerness, our cats, Limón and Pixie, and our love for community-building.
Limón and Pixie are cartoon characters who plague our lives with sass, menacery, and lots of love. Limon (Limoncita/Limonstinka/Limoncaca/Limonsweetie/Limonia) is a tiny stinky baby with the biggest attitude who adores eggies, ice cream, feather toys, and getting her tail. Pixie (Picky/Baby/Pixel/Pickle/Stinky) pretends to be big and tough but is really just a baby obsessed with pom-poms and chicken sticks. Our Kitties and those of our friends make up a community of 13 cats, who are a big inspiration in our work. Many of these cats are represented in our fundraiser print, ‘Community Supports Community.’
Accessibility, joy, inclusion, and solidarity are of the utmost importance to us. These themes are present in both the design and messaging of our prints as well as in our commitment to size and price inclusivity. We are dedicated to upholding these values by creating art to raise and donate money for specific causes, such as supporting Trans and Palestinian liberation through direct mutual aid. Our practice centers queer joy and commiseration, which we believe are at the core of our community. None of this would have been possible without the support from our amazing community we have watched grow around us in Los Angeles and Long Beach over the past year.
